At Koala ABA, we are getting ready so your child returns to the classroom with total confidence!

Dear Families:

August is finally here, and with it, the countdown to heading back to school begins.

Yes, we know this time of year brings up many emotions—from nervousness about new beginnings to concern over how our little ones will adapt to daily routines.

At Koala ABA & Learning Centers, we understand that preparing for back-to-school means creating the right environment so your child feels safe, understood, and ready to bring out their best.

Join us to discover how we can make this new school year the start of their greatest achievements!

K-12 Homeschooling: The Perfect Balance Between Learning and Therapy

It’s official: enrollment for the 2026–2027 school year is open, and August is the key time to secure a spot tailored specifically to your child.

If you are looking for an educational alternative where their comprehensive development is the priority, Koala ABA & Learning Centers is the ideal place.

For many children with autism, the traditional classroom can be a challenge. That’s why a model that integrates academic rigor with daily therapeutic support offers incomparable benefits:

  • Integrated Therapies: Behavioral, occupational, and speech therapies are strategically integrated into the school day.
  • Structured Environment: Adapted spaces with predictable routines that prevent sensory overload and reduce anxiety.
  • Personalized Academic Pace: We adapt to your child’s learning speed, providing specialized, real-time support.

Without a doubt, the right environment changes everything for your child. Learn more about our Center-Based Therapy programs here!

Parent Practical Guide: Key Tools for Back to School

The success of this new school cycle is largely built through teamwork between the home, therapists, and the school.

When we align our goals, the path forward becomes much clearer and safer for our children.

To support you in this process and ensure they start with maximum independence, we have prepared these fundamental resources to help them begin this year with confidence:

  • Managing Anxiety and Transitions: Use visual social stories for the morning routine and comfort objects to provide a sense of security.
  • Mini-Guide for the Teacher: Provide a one-page summary highlighting your child’s strengths, calming strategies, and current therapy goals.
  • Home Study Space: Create a distraction-free area and use a reward system to motivate independent homework habits.

From Summer Camp to the Classroom: Building the Bridge to the New Routine

The end of summer activities doesn’t have to turn into a complicated process at home.

A quick tip from Koala ABA? The transition toward school schedules is a journey best taken step by step.
With this in mind, our recommendation for this month is to gradually begin adjusting the following key aspects at home:

  • Sleep Schedules: Move bedtime and wake-up time up by about 15 minutes each day to help adjust their internal clock.
  • Meal Times: Sync breakfast and lunch schedules with the times they will be having them at the center or school.
  • Structured Activities: Introduce short blocks of time dedicated to reading or board games to practice sustained attention.

Our summer camp is almost over, and our kids have enjoyed every minute of it. Let’s keep that momentum going into the new school year!

Early Diagnosis: Securing the Necessary Support for School Success

If you have noticed challenges in your child’s communication or integration for a while, or if the school has requested a formal evaluation, August is the month to take action.

Having an Autism Evaluation or a Disability Eligibility Certification (CDE) in place allows the school to implement necessary accommodations from day one.

Furthermore, it helps you determine which ABA Therapy modality is best suited for this stage:

  • Center-Based ABA Therapy: Ideal for promoting socialization, following directions, and adapting to new environments.
  • In-Home ABA Therapy: Excellent for reinforcing daily routines, personal hygiene independence, and behavior management within the family environment.
  • Speech and Communication Support: Tools such as NeuroMod™, which help express needs and reduce frustration.

Don’t put off a diagnosis for later. Schedule a priority evaluation this month and start the school year with clear answers!
